(AbsoluteNews.com) – In the early morning hours of Easter Sunday, when kids around the country were sleeping and dreaming of chocolate, a horrifying crime was unfolding in Georgia. Someone torched a home while a family was sleeping. What’s even more shocking than the crime, is the suspect police have in custody.
According to a press release by the Gwinnett County Police Department, officers and the fire department responded to a blaze at 4:57 a.m. after receiving a call. After emergency services got the fire under control, they found the body of a 10-year-old girl inside of the home. She died in the fire.
Gwinnett detectives determined the fire was set intentionally by the 15-year-old brother of the victim. He’d reportedly set the fire and fled. Rescue workers originally searched for him inside the home but stopped when they learned he was “away from the scene” and safe.

The Fire Department said a family member told them there were smoke detectors in the home, but they didn’t go off. The survivors, two adults and two children, are being assisted by the Red Cross.
Police revealed the suspect has been charged with malice and felony murder. They also suspect they will be adding an arson in the first degree charge later.
