CHICAGO, IL – A night meant for celebration turned into a scene of chaos in Chicago’s River North when a drive-by shooting outside an album release party left 18 people injured, four of whom have died. The attack occurred just before midnight as partygoers exited a lounge on Chicago Avenue.
Witnesses reported that a black SUV approached the venue, and multiple shooters opened fire on the crowd. The sudden violence sent people scrambling for cover, leaving behind shattered glass and debris scattered across the street.
Emergency responders arrived swiftly, tending to the injured amidst the chaos. Many victims, mostly women, were transported to local hospitals. Unfortunately, two succumbed to their injuries at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, and two others passed away at Stroger Hospital. The condition of the rapper hosting the event, Mello Bucks, remains unknown.
The scene was described as traumatic, with people hugging and consoling each other as police secured the area. Crime scene investigators worked through the night, collecting evidence and documenting the extensive damage both inside and outside the lounge.
The motive for the shooting remains unclear, and authorities are actively searching for the suspects. No arrests have been made, leaving the community anxious and seeking answers. As many as 50 officers are working the crime scene and collecting evidence.
