AMERICUS, GA – An 18-year-old beauty queen from Georgia, Trinity Poague, is currently in custody following her arrest in connection to the death of a toddler, as confirmed by law enforcement officials.
Poague, the reigning Miss Donalsonville, was taken into custody on Friday as per the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office jail records. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) revealed that they were prompted to look into the death of the 18-month-old boy by the Georgia Southwestern State University Police Department on January 14.
The toddler, who was identified as Jaxton “JD” Williams, was rushed to the emergency room at Phoebe Sumter Hospital in Americus. Despite the best efforts of the medical staff, the young boy did not survive.
Upon thorough investigation, which included interviews and evidence analysis, the GBI agents apprehended Poague. A close friend of the toddler’s father, Cecilia Smith, confirmed that the victim was indeed Jaxton “JD” Williams. Smith, who has set up a GoFundMe to aid the grieving father, Julian “Ja” Williams, disclosed that Poague was Julian’s girlfriend and that the child lived with his father.
Poague, a graduate of Southwest Georgia Academy and a student at Georgia Southwestern State University, is currently being held at the Sumter County Jail without bond. She is facing charges of aggravated battery, first-degree cruelty to children, and felony murder.
The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that the investigation is still ongoing. The GBI is urging anyone with information to either call 1-800-597-TIPS (8477) or submit a tip online.
