A man with an ax allegedly attacked a property owner with a concealed-carry permit in northern California’s central valley, police say.
An assault was reported in Dos Palos, California, according to the Merced County Sheriff’s Department post on Facebook.
As deputies arrived at the scene, dispatch informed them that the victim shot the adult male in self-defense with a legally permitted CCW.
Police said the suspect attempted to use an ax on the victim.
Luis Larios, identified as the suspect, suffered a gunshot wound that was not considered life-threatening when deputies arrived on scene.
Deputy Machado placed a tourniquet on Larios while awaiting an ambulance, according to the Facebook post.
“Deputies determined that Larios sat in his vehicle stuck in the mud on the property,” according to the Facebook post.
“When the property owner tried to help Larios, he became angry and grabbed an axe from his trunk. He then began swinging it in a threatening way.“
Larios is currently in custody “pending criminal charges” following the shooting, which authorities determined was justified self-defense.
