A mother and two children found sleeping outside in freezing cold

HOUSTON, TX – In a chilling incident early Tuesday morning, two young children were discovered sleeping outside in freezing temperatures alongside their mother near a popular eatery in northwest Harris County. The children, a two-month-old and a one-year-old, were found by a passerby who quickly alerted authorities, ensuring the safety of the vulnerable family.

Aiyana McClinton, the mother of the children, now faces serious charges of child endangerment. Investigators arriving on the scene reported that temperatures were a frosty 28 degrees, and the children were inadequately dressed, with only a single blanket providing minimal warmth. McClinton allegedly explained that she had stopped near the restaurant to rest, but the situation raised alarms when deputies noted her glassy eyes and the presence of a vodka bottle nearby.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez confirmed that the children were immediately taken to a local hospital for treatment of cold-related injuries. Fortunately, both youngsters have since been discharged and are now under the care of a relative, as confirmed by Family Protective Services.

Authorities are currently focused on ensuring the well-being of the children while expressing empathy for McClinton’s possible struggles. “Our priority is the children’s safety. We must prevent any further risk to their welfare,” a spokesperson stated, highlighting the agency’s commitment to providing a secure environment for the young girls.

The sheriff’s office is still piecing together details about McClinton’s circumstances, including whether she might be homeless. Her aunt, unaware of the recent events, mentioned that their last conversation was around Christmas, suggesting a possible disconnect within the family.

This incident underscores the broader challenges faced by communities in addressing child welfare and homelessness, particularly during harsh weather conditions. Local authorities are urging residents to be vigilant and report any similar situations to prevent tragedies.

As the investigation continues, the community is reminded of the importance of support systems for those in need, emphasizing compassion and proactive intervention.
