(AbsoluteNews.com) – On Saturday, February 14, the Senate acquitted former President Donald Trump of impeachment charges for the second time in as many years. Twice he was impeached because the Democratically-controlled House wanted to kneecap him and both times justice prevailed. But one senator is now worried about the precedent that was set.
Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) took to Twitter to discuss the ramifications of the impeachment on its final day. He explained that what happened at the Capitol on January 6 was terrible, but that’s not the real reason Democrats impeached him. They did that because they hated him. He believes that “impeachment based on partisan differences” could become normal.
I fear that if this model is followed in the future – impeachment to disqualify one from holding office based on partisan hatred – will become the norm.

The impeachment trial was unprecedented for many reasons. Trump is no longer in office. The House did not call witnesses or hold an investigation. He was hardly given time to prepare a defense and there was no evidence that he did anything wrong. It was clear from the very beginning that it was all political theater. And Graham is right, this could very well become the norm. The reality is, even though he was acquitted, the damage to the Republic will last for decades.
