(AbsoluteNews.com) – In less than a year, Texans will head to the polls to choose their next governor. Republican Governor Greg Abbott is running for re-election, and Democrat Beto O’Rourke hopes to run against him. But if one famous actor decides to jump into the ring, both men could be facing defeat.
A Dallas Morning News/University of Texas at Tyler poll conducted from November 9 through November 16 shows voters are very excited about a hypothetical matchup between either of the men and actor Matthew McConaughey. The pollster asked respondents who they would vote for if the Hollywood star ran against the current governor, Abbott lost 35% to 43%. Another question asked who voters would choose O’Rourke to replace Abbott in the hypothetical matchup, and the Democrat lost 27% to 49%.

Despite the polls, McConaughey announced on Sunday that he would not be running for political office. He intends to lead the charge for political change by supporting entrepreneurs and leaders he believes are doing good for the country instead.
Although Abbott lost a hypothetical match to the actor, he beats O’Rourke easily when it’s just the two of them in the race. With McConaughey out of the running, it looks like Abbott has a clear path to victory in Texas.
