Actress-Model Dead At 32 From Sudden Illness

Charlbi Dean, a South African actress and model, died of an unexpected illness in New York City on Monday. She had a co-starring role in the Palme d’Or winning satire Triangle of Sadness.

Charlbi Dean played Yaya in the film “The Yacht”, which is set to be screened at the Toronto and New York film festivals.

Charlbi Dean was born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa. She was engaged to Luke Volker, who recently posted on Instagram that he was “couldn’t be more proud of her” for playing Syonide in Black Lightning.

Dean signed with a modeling agency at age 12 and made her screen debut in the 2010 South African film Spud, starring Troye Sivan. She also appeared on several international magazine covers.

She is perhaps best known for playing Syonide, a recurring character on the CW series Black Lightning starting in 2018.
