Seattle, Washington – A Japan Airlines aircraft collided with a parked Delta Air Lines plane at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on Wednesday morning, causing some disruption but thankfully no injuries were reported, officials said.
The incident occurred around 10:17 a.m. between the S Concourse and the south airport maintenance hangars, according to SEA Airport. An inbound Japan Airlines aircraft apparently struck the tail of a parked Delta Air Lines aircraft on the ramp on a taxi line. The Delta Air Lines plane was a Boeing 737 headed to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, carrying 142 passengers.
Passengers and travelers at the airport captured photos showing the wing of the Japan Airlines jet cutting through part of the tail of the Delta jet. SEA Airport, along with both airlines, worked together to safely deplane passengers and transport them to the terminal.
Despite the collision, operations at the airport were minimally impacted as it occurred on a taxi lane. Passengers scheduled to fly on Wednesday were advised to stay informed by checking with their respective airlines for updates.
Delta Air Lines issued a statement acknowledging the incident, revealing that a Delta 737 aircraft made contact with another airline’s aircraft while in line for deicing. Thankfully, there were no reported injuries for crew or passengers onboard. Delta expressed apologies for any inconveniences caused by the delay in travels and promised to cooperate with aviation stakeholders in conducting an investigation.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) provided preliminary information, indicating that the right wing of Japan Airlines Flight 68 collided with the tail of Delta Air Lines Flight 1921 as the planes were taxiing at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. As a result, some flights to the airport were temporarily paused. The FAA assured that more details would be shared as they became available.
The investigation into the collision is ongoing, with authorities working to determine the exact circumstances that led to the incident. Passengers and travelers are being urged to stay updated on any developments related to flights at SEA Airport.
