Seattle, Washington – Amazon has made the decision to bring its employees back to the office full-time, ending its hybrid work policy. The move, set to take effect in January according to a memo from Amazon’s CEO Andy Jassy, comes as a shift away from the flexibility that allowed staff to work from home two days a week previously. Jassy explained that the return to the office is intended to foster innovation, collaboration, and stronger connections among employees, indicating his concern about the potential dilution of Amazon’s corporate culture with too much flexibility and bureaucracy.

This stands in contrast to the UK government’s move to make flexible working a default right in an upcoming employment rights bill. The government aims to shift away from a culture of presenteeism to embrace the economic benefits and recruiting opportunities that remote work can offer.
