Aix-en-Provence, France – Four individuals, including the grandparents of Emile Soleil, are now in custody following the disappearance and tragic death of the two-year-old in the French Alps in July 2023. Two adult children of Emile’s grandparents have also been arrested on charges of voluntary homicide and concealing a corpse, according to prosecutors.
Last summer, bones and clothing belonging to Emile were discovered by a hiker near the residence of his maternal grandparents in the French Alps. Despite the findings, authorities were unable to determine the cause of the toddler’s death, speculating it could have been the result of “a fall, manslaughter, or murder.”
The sudden development in the case, which appeared to have stalled, has reignited interest across France, where Emile’s story has garnered significant media coverage. News of the arrests has shocked the community, bringing the search for answers back to the forefront.
Emile was last seen on July 8, 2023, walking alone on a street in the village of Haut-Vernet. Following his disappearance, a massive search effort was launched, involving hundreds of volunteers, law enforcement, sniffer dogs, and the military.
