(AbsoluteNews.com) – Every year, Fox News lights up a beautiful Christmas tree in New York City’s Fox Square. Sadly, an arsonist destroyed this year’s decoration.
Just after midnight on December 8, the 50-foot All-American Christmas Tree went up in flames. It contained only red white and blue decorations, 100,000 lights and 10,000 glass ornaments. The New York Police Department (NYPD) arrived at the scene after the fire began and saw a suspect running away. According to authorities, a man was seen climbing the tree before it caught fire. It’s unclear if the arsonist used an accelerant.

Firefighters extinguished the flames and no injuries were reported. Police took the suspect, identified as Craig Tamanaha, into custody in connection with the fire. He’s facing charges of criminal trespass, disorderly conduct, criminal mischief, reckless endangerment, criminal tampering, arson and other crimes. He has a previous criminal record that includes public intoxication and drug possession.
Fox News Media CEO Suzanne Scott called the fire a “malicious arson attack.” The news organization has plans to rebuild the tree before Christmas. Fox is clearly not going to let some Scrooge ruin the holiday season.
