ATTACK ON DAVID PATERSON: Two Youths Arrested After Violent Encounter in New York City

NEW YORK CITY, NY – Following the recent attack on former New York Governor David Paterson and his stepson Anthony Sliwa, two youths have been apprehended in relation to the incident. The New York City Police Department announced on Saturday that a 12-year-old boy and a 13-year-old boy were taken into custody and charged with gang assault. The identities of the juveniles have not been disclosed.

A spokesperson for the former governor issued a statement expressing gratitude towards the suspects for surrendering themselves. Governor Paterson and his family are relieved with the arrests and hope that the young individuals involved can learn from this unfortunate event. Additionally, Paterson extended his appreciation to the parents of the youths for holding them accountable and commended the NYPD for their diligent efforts in this case.

Initial reports indicated that the authorities were searching for five individuals connected to the assault and could potentially be pursuing additional suspects. The incident occurred on Manhattan’s Upper East Side along Second Avenue, where Paterson, 70, and his stepson, 20, were subjected to a gang assault.

According to Paterson, the altercation began when he and his stepson encountered three individuals climbing a fire escape while walking their dog. After a brief confrontation, they returned home. However, upon stepping outside again later, the crowd had grown, leading to a violent escalation. Paterson recounted being punched in the face and shoulder, while his stepson was knocked to the ground.

In response to the attack, both Paterson and Curtis Sliwa, father of Anthony Sliwa and founder of the Guardian Angels, spoke out. Paterson praised his stepson for not backing down during the altercation, emphasizing his courage and bravery. Sliwa commended his son for standing up to protect Paterson when the situation turned violent.

Following the assault, both Paterson and his stepson were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. While they have since been discharged, Sliwa’s son required five stitches on his lower lip and sustained various bruises. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with authorities continuing their efforts to ensure justice is served.
