Baggage Handler Dies At Airport In Deadly Accident At Age 26

26-year-old baggage handler killed in accident at New Orleans airport –

A baggage handler was killed on the job following a terrifying incident at work. Jermani Thompson, 26, of Reserve, LA., was the worker involved in the accident.

26-year-old Thompson was unloading a Frontier flight when her hair got tangled in the machinery of the belt loader. She was rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Thompson worked for GAT, a company that performs ground services for airlines. Multiple travelers questioned how the accident could happen in the first place, and questioned whether company safety policies go far enough.

The GAT Airline Ground Support employee was killed at the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport on Tuesday night.

WWL-TV obtained a copy of GAT’s employee handbook, which states that long hairstyles should be pulled back off the face and neck to avoid interfering with job performance.

Jermani Thompson played basketball for East St. John High School, Hesston College and Tougaloo College. Thompson grew up around basketball, watching her older brother play, and was team captain her senior year. She attended Hesston College, where she played basketball as well.

Thompson’s relatives are still searching for answers about the circumstances surrounding her death. GAT officials have reached out to Thompson’s relatives and claim they are providing support as best they can. The airport director has also expressed condolences to Thompson’s relatives, friends and co-workers.
