Biden Makes Misleading Claims During Speech to Congress

( – President Joe Biden gave his first speech before a joint session of Congress on Wednesday, April 28. The man who told the American people that he was going to unify the country, stood before the country and lied.

During the speech, Biden made a lot of claims, but five of them stood out because they were flat-out lies. Not just small, obscure lies but ones that everyone could fact check in real-time. For instance, the president claimed that gun violence declined with the 1994 assault weapons ban. That’s a line Democrats often say, but there’s no evidence that it’s true according to experts. Biden also said the majority of illegal immigrants in the US have overstayed their visas. That is also not true, the Washington Post debunked his claim.

Then there was the claim that he has traveled more than 17,000 miles with Chinese President Xi Jinping, a lie he has told before and one that the Washington Post has also proved false.

Finally, Biden told Congress and the American people that when he took office, less than 1% of seniors had received their vaccines, now almost 70% have. When he took over, the country was trying to vaccinate healthcare workers of all ages. And he claimed the rich got richer, but the statistic he was using has already been disputed.

Although Democrats are celebrating the speech as a win, is it really? Usually, winners don’t have to lie to get applause.
