Black Republican Faces Racist Backlash

(AbsoluteNews.com) – The death of George Floyd while in police custody in Minneapolis, Minnesota, has led to many changes across the country. Law enforcement agencies have banned chokeholds. President Donald Trump signed an executive order with the intention of bringing cops and their communities together. And, both the House and Senate introduced reform bills.

In the Senate, Tim Scott (R-SC) spearheaded the police reform legislation. The Black senator was asked by Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) to take on the role. When the GOP unveiled its bill, Scott seemed very happy about it. Unfortunately, now he’s facing an awful lot of hate from the Left.

Racism From the Left

Scott should have been the perfect senator to write the GOP’s bill. As a Black man, he knows the struggle of being a person of color in the US and has a unique point of view. Democrats claim to be the party of tolerance, so you’d think they’d support and respect the senator but that’s not what happened.

The Republican lawmaker said he’s received a number of racist and profane messages since he took on the task. He’s been called a “sellout,” presumably because he’s a member of the GOP. This caller also called him “Uncle Tim,” a play on “Uncle Tom.” Basically it means Scott turned his back on his community.

Lawmaker Jumps to Scott’s Defense

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) is especially disturbed by the attacks being lobbed at Senator Scott. On June 24, the congressman slammed Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) for saying the senator wasn’t working on police reform until Floyd died. The minority leader pointed out all of the ways his colleague has helped the Black community including criminal justice reform and college funding.

The racism Scott is enduring is just vile. It’s pretty sad when Republicans are attacked no matter what they do. The Dems should be ashamed.
