Buffalo man indicted on murder and attempted murder charge following police-involved shooting – WGRZ
Nakeem D. Haynes, 27, was charged with murder and two counts of attempted murder in connection with a recent homicide and pursuit that resulted in a police-involved shooting.
On June 17, Haynes allegedly shot a 63-year-old man, shortly after he fired in a patrol vehicle that was in the area. Striking one of the officer’s gun holders. Police pursued Haynes, who allegedly fired at them again, and Police returned fire and shot Haynes on Playter Street. In Buffalo.
The Buffalo police department released full body cam footage of the incident as it unfolded from the perspective of multiple officers on the scene.
If Hayes is convicted of his crimes he will spend up to 25 years in prison.
Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn commends the Buffalo Police Department for their work in this ongoing investigation. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Gary Hackbush of the Homicide Unit. Additional charges may be filed as the homicide and the officer-involved shooting remains under investigation.
As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Buffalo has an average of 55 homicides per year. Assaults and Robberies have been trending down in recent years to multi-decade lows.
