Body Of Famous Mountaineer Found Dead After Deadly Accident During Expedition

Hilaree Nelson’s body found after US ski mountaineer dies during Nepal expedition – CNN

The 49-year-old American ski mountaineer Hilaree Nelson has gone missing in Nepal, according to one of her sponsors. The mother of two was skiing with her partner in Nepal when she fell off the mountain. Her ski blade skidded off and she fell off the other side of the peak.

Last week, Nelson and Morrison posted on Instagram about the challenges of climbing Manaslu. Nelson wrote on Instagram that she didn’t feel as sure-footed on Manaslu as she had on past adventures, and Morrison said that the mountain said no and they had to leave. They said they bailed from camp 3 and headed down on skis.

Nelson was a pioneer in mountaineering and a role model to the new generation of climbers. She has made first descents through more than 40 expeditions across the world.

Morrison said Nelson started a small avalanche while skiing down from the summit of Manaslu and was carried down a narrow snow slope. He located her body on Wednesday after two days searching for her by helicopter.

Search efforts were hampered by bad weather yesterday, but her body was found by those searching and identified as the missing mountaineer Hilaree Nelson.

These types of expeditions can be highly dangerous and even life-threatening. To learn more about this story, please consider the news outlets listed below to stay in the know.
