The Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro, in collaboration with the justice ministry, announced the arrests of key suspects allegedly preparing the assault that aimed to capture attention on social media platforms.
The police reported that those involved had assembled a group intending to use improvised explosives to disrupt the concert. The coordination of this plot involved an individual and a teenager, both of whom were detained during the investigation. Details shared on social media indicated that the group had engaged in spreading harmful ideologies targeting children, adolescents, and the LGBTQIA+ community.
One individual arrested in connection with the plot was reportedly apprehended in the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul for illegal possession of a firearm. The teenager faced separate charges for harboring child pornography in Rio. Authorities believe both suspects also encouraged radicalization among youth, fostering a culture that promotes self-harm and violence as a means of establishing identity through dangerous challenges.
Notably, the suspects identified themselves as fans of Lady Gaga, often referred to as “Little Monsters.” In light of the threat, law enforcement initiated “Operation Fake Monster,” executing search warrants across multiple regions including Rio de Janeiro, Mato Grosso, Rio Grande do Sul, and Sao Paulo. During these operations, police confiscated electronic devices and other materials linked to the suspects.
