WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Four Democratic members of Congress from Connecticut were the targets of bomb threats on their homes, officials said. Representatives Jim Himes, Joe Courtney, John Larson, and Jahana Hayes reported receiving threats. Although authorities found no evidence of explosives on their properties, the threats caused alarm and necessitated police response.
Hayes disclosed that the Wolcott Police Department notified her about a threatening email claiming a pipe bomb had been placed in her mailbox. Law enforcement agencies including state police, U.S. Capitol Police, and the House sergeant at arms were alerted and responded promptly, determining no explosives were present.
Courtney’s home in Vernon also received a bomb threat while his family was present, according to his office. Himes mentioned discovering the threat against his home during a Thanksgiving gathering with his family. Responding agencies included the U.S. Capitol Police, as well as local police departments in Greenwich and Stamford.
In response to the threats, Himes expressed appreciation for the swift actions of law enforcement to ensure their safety. He condemned political violence, echoing a sentiment shared by other threatened lawmakers during the holiday season. Larson also confirmed that East Hartford Police addressed a bomb threat against his residence.
The recent threats come after a contentious election season that saw instances of violence. In July, a gunman targeted a Trump rally in Pennsylvania, injuring the then-president and causing a fatality. Subsequent events include a thwarted assassination attempt at Trump’s Florida golf course. Additionally, other public figures, including New York Representative Elise Stefanik and former congressman Lee Zeldin, reported receiving threats in recent days.
