Border Wall Construction Accelerates

( – One of the reasons people elected President Donald Trump is because he promised to build a wall on the Southern border. Americans were sick and tired of the flow of illegal aliens and drugs pouring into our country. He promised he was going to end that, and we’re now learning nothing’s going to stop him from accomplishing his goals…not even a global pandemic.

Promises Made

For years, voters complained about the porous Mexican-American border. The steady stream of illegal migrants has left scars on the land in the southernmost part of the country. The amount of trash left in the desert is both astounding and infuriating. In 2011, an ABC affiliate showed images that shocked Americans.

The trash, however, was the least of the problems. Drugs, guns, and even humans were being smuggled through the border. American citizens who lived there were in fear of their safety.

So, when Donald Trump came along and promised a wall as a solution to the problem, voters were ready for it. Fast forward four years, and COVID-19 hit the US. The president immediately made moves to close the border and limit immigration into our country. Social-distancing guidelines, however, left some wondering if the construction of the wall would continue.

Promises Kept

According to recent reports, not only has border wall construction continued throughout the pandemic, it’s speeding up.

Acting Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Commissioner Mark Morgan told Fox News the agency is “…increasing the pace of construction.” He said the virus has further proven why defending the border is so important and why the “wall matters.”

So far, 182 miles of Trump’s wall has been built with CBP expecting to complete 450 miles before the end of the year. That might not seem like a lot, but you have to remember the wall also includes lights, cameras, a road and a 150-foot enforcement zone. And although the border is about 2,000 miles long, the president has said only about half of it will need an actual wall. The rest is protected by the natural landscape.

As the November election approaches, it’s clear the president is keeping his promises. If given another four years, there’s little doubt he will be able to complete the entire wall.
