BREAKING: Elon Musk Will Unban Donald Trump’s Twitter Account

Elon Musk says he would reverse Twitter ban on Donald Trump – The Washington Post

Elon Musk said he would reverse Twitter’s ban on former president Donald Trump, saying the ban “alienated a large part of the country” and “was a morally bad decision.”

Musk has agreed to purchase Twitter for $44 billion, arguing that the social media site should host unfettered free speech and function as a “de facto town square.”

Elon Musk’s decision to un-ban Trump from Twitter would overturn one of the most significant and widely debated corporate rulings in American tech and hand the former president back a megaphone.

Trump advisers have worried that if he rejoined Twitter, it would depress the value of his company’s recently launched Twitter clone, Truth Social. However, Trump only has about 2 million followers on Truth Social and still sees Twitter as a quick and punchy way to reach the news media and the public.

Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, began investing in Twitter this year and has criticized the platform’s left-wing bias in moderation decisions and its permanent ban policy. He argues that a temporary suspension is appropriate but not a permanent ban.

Elon Musk wants free speech on Twitter, but the reality is that Trump’s Twitter account was banned just before he exited the White House, and his first attempt to match his online audience was so unpopular he ended it.

Trump has urged people to use Truth Social, but his engagement there is still tiny compared with his lost Twitter presence.

Twitter employees were disappointed and disgusted with Trump’s ban but said he had not signaled any behavior or mindset change. The company was within its rights to remove posts or accounts whose tweets incite violence, promote harassment, or spread lies.
