Shenzhen, China – Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD has unveiled a groundbreaking fast-charging technology that can add 400km of range with just a five-minute charge, setting a new standard in the industry. In addition to this innovation, BYD has also announced a significant investment in charging infrastructure, with plans to build more than 4,000 fast chargers across China. The new “Super e-Platform” technology is capable of charging at speeds up to 1,000kW, double the fastest Tesla V4 superchargers. This development comes as a part of BYD’s commitment to address users’ “charging anxiety” by reducing the time it takes to charge electric vehicles to levels comparable to refueling petrol vehicles.
Founder Wang Chuanfu highlighted the company’s dedication to pushing the boundaries of charging power during a launch event in Shenzhen, emphasizing the achievement of reaching the unit of a megawatt for charging power for the first time in the industry. The faster charging technology is currently available in two new models, the Han L sedan and Tang L SUV, which are priced starting at 270,000 yuan. In addition to introducing this cutting-edge technology, BYD also aims to install over 4,000 ultra-fast chargers utilizing the new platform across China. This move is significant as many BYD owners in China currently rely on chargers from other manufacturers to charge their vehicles.
In a further effort to stay at the forefront of innovation in the electric vehicle market, BYD recently launched a roof-mounted drone launcher that can be used with all of its vehicles. Partnering with DJI, the company designed the launcher to allow drones to take off and land at speeds of up to 25 km/h. With the company quickly gaining ground on competitors like Tesla, having sold 1.76 million cars in the previous year, BYD’s focus on developing cutting-edge technology and expanding infrastructure is positioning them as a key player in the electric vehicle industry. While a significant portion of their sales are in China, the company’s growth and success are indicative of their commitment to driving innovation and sustainability in the automotive sector.
