Los Angeles, California – Cher Horowitz, the beloved character from the iconic 1995 film “Clueless,” may be making a comeback to the screen. Peacock, the streaming service, is currently in the development stages of a follow-up series to the cult classic, with Alicia Silverstone set to reprise her role as Cher. Silverstone will not only be starring in the new series but will also serve as an executive producer alongside writers Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage, and Jordan Weiss.
The original film, directed by Amy Heckerling and produced by Robert Lawrence, gained immense popularity for its portrayal of the fashionable and witty Cher as she navigated the ups and downs of high school life. The new series will see Silverstone stepping back into Cher’s fashionable shoes, though specific plot details are being kept under wraps for now.
This upcoming project is not to be confused with a previous attempt at reviving “Clueless” that Peacock was working on in 2020, which was ultimately scrapped. That version of the show had a mystery-driven storyline focused on Cher’s disappearance and her friend Dionne’s investigation.
After the success of the original film, a sitcom adaptation of “Clueless” aired for three seasons from 1996 to 1999. The series featured Rachel Blanchard as Cher, along with original cast members such as Stacey Dash, Donald Faison, and Elisa Donovan. Heckerling, the creator of the film, also played a key role in developing the TV adaptation.
The new series is set to be produced by CBS Studios, which holds the rights to “Clueless,” in partnership with Universal Television. Schwartz and Savage will be executive producing through their company Fake Empire, alongside Silverstone, Weiss, Heckerling, and Lawrence. Fans of the original film and TV series are eagerly anticipating the return of Cher and her fashionable adventures to the small screen.
