Child's Remains Found in Home With Abandoned Siblings

(AbsoluteNews.com) – Child neglect and abuse is a terrible problem in the United States. In 2019, more than 1,800 kids died as a result of abuse and neglect. Recently, police in Harris County, Texas, uncovered a horrible case of neglect in a Houston apartment.

On October 24, three children were discovered when a 15-year-old called the local sheriff’s office to report that he and his two siblings, ages 10 and 7, had been abandoned. He said his 9-year-old brother had died a year ago and his body was still inside the apartment.

When authorities arrived at the scene, they found the teen and the skeletal remains of one child, and two other surviving siblings. Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said it appeared all three children had been living alone for an extended period of time.

Deputies found the kids’ mother and boyfriend later that night. The police questioned the adults, but later released them. Child Protective Services is now involved in the case. The sheriff said the child abuse, homicide and crime scene units were investigating the death of the child and neglect of the others.

Gonzalez told the press that the department wants answers. The kids had been fending for themselves, while the oldest was “doing the best he could to take care of the others.”
