China Cuts Off Investigation Into Wuhan Lab

( – In 2020, former President Donald Trump and many of his officials said they thought COVID-19 may have started in a Wuhan, China lab. Republican lawmakers have pointed to experiments on bats as the possible origin of the virus. For months, the Right called for an investigation into the lab leak theory.

Finally, the World Health Organization (WHO) ordered an investigation into the origins of the virus. But this week, the Chinese government put an end to the probe.

China Lashes Out

Last week, the WHO suggested the second phase of its investigation should include “audits of relevant laboratories and research institutions operating in the area of the initial human cases identified in December 2019.” On Thursday, July 22, Chinese health officials claimed the proposed audits by the WHO are disrespectful.

Zeng Yixin, the Chinese vice-minister of health, held a press conference, saying the first phase of the WHO probe disproved the lab leak theory. He claimed the probe into the labs would show “disrespect for common sense and arrogance towards science.” He went on to say the Chinese government is not going to follow the health organization’s plan.

The vice health minister told reporters the Communist government would support an investigation based on science, but it would not support the politicization of the origin studies.

The Lab Leak Theory Gains Momentum

The media and Democrats dismissed the theory when Trump and his allies started discussing the possibility that the virus started in a Chinese lab. The Left went as far as to claim Conservatives were spreading anti-Asian propaganda. They mocked the very possibility that it may have started there and accused Trump of spreading conspiracies.

However, over the last few months, the narrative has started to shift. The media has been entertaining the possibility the virus did start in a lab. Then, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director, Anthony Fauci, said he isn’t convinced the virus developed naturally.

Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) has repeatedly called for investigations into Fauci’s role in the origins of the virus. He recently slammed Fauci for allegedly lying about the National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding of the Wuhan lab where Conservatives believe the lab leak may have happened. During a Senate hearing, the senator even said Fauci was “trying to obscure responsibility for 4 million people dying around the world from a pandemic.”

Now that the Chinese government is refusing to cooperate, Paul and his GOP colleagues, and the world, may never learn the truth about how the virus mutated and who played a part in its spread.
