(AbsoluteNews.com) – Although the US slowed down its exploration of space during 2021 due to the pandemic, the government is stepping up its program to include about 40 launches in 2022. Considering China is gearing up its game to match the US by announcing around the same number of missions, the US government’s announcement couldn’t come soon enough. Not only is China reportedly building up its “space capabilities at twice the rate” of the United States, but the country also intends to finish building its own space station by the end of the year.
General David Thompson of the US Space Force believes the communist country, at its current pace, could surpass US capabilities in space by the end of the decade.

The race to space isn’t just to explore the final frontier. China beating America in the race to the stars could mean concerns over national security. In October 2021, there was some speculation the country tested hypersonic missiles that travel at five times the speed of sound, can carry nuclear weapons, and are virtually undetectable. In addition, there are rumors of a secretive space plane in the works. In order to stay competitive and in the alpha position, NASA needs to garner adequate funding from Congress in time.
