Albuquerque, New Mexico – Users of the Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices have reported issues over the past few hours with being unable to Cast audio or video content. Google has acknowledged the problem and is actively working on a solution to address the issue affecting these older models of the popular streaming devices.
In a recent update on Tuesday, Google announced that they have identified the cause of the problem impacting Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. Users are advised not to factory reset their devices, as it may lead to further issues with setting up the device. The team is currently working on a fix for users who may have already performed a factory reset during troubleshooting.
Google has been made aware of the issue with Chromecast v2 and Chromecast Audio devices as of Monday and is actively working on a resolution. Users of these devices have reported receiving the “Untrusted device” warning message when attempting to cast content to their devices, causing frustration among users.
Although the warning message may lead users to believe their devices have been bricked or are reaching the end of their life cycle, it is more likely a bug. Google has not announced any support deprecation for these devices, unlike the original Chromecast (1st gen) which received such an announcement in 2023.
The Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio were introduced by Google in 2015 and are among the oldest devices in the Chromecast lineup. While newer models like the Chromecast (3rd gen) and Ultra do not appear to be impacted by the current issue, Google is working diligently to provide a server-side fix in a timely manner to address the concerns of affected users.
