Madison, Wisconsin – Marisa Moseley, the former women’s basketball coach at the University of Wisconsin, has resigned after four seasons with a record of 47-75. The team has struggled to compete in the Big Ten for over a decade, with Moseley failing to win more than one-third of her conference games in any season during her tenure.
The Badgers finished this season with a 13-16 record, falling 81-54 to Iowa in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament. Moseley cited personal reasons for her resignation in a statement released by the university, expressing gratitude towards the players, coaches, staff, and fans who supported the program.
Following Moseley’s departure, associate head coach Margaret McKeon will serve as interim head coach as Wisconsin embarks on a national search for a new head coach. Athletic director Chris McIntosh thanked Moseley for her dedication to the team and wished her well in her future endeavors.
The decision to step down comes months after former player Tessa Towers made allegations on social media that she was mistreated by Moseley and the coaching staff. Towers claimed she was subjected to frequent changes in medication, forced to sign a release form allowing access to therapy sessions, and pressured to undergo testing for autism.
Despite the allegations, Moseley maintained a focus on the well-being of her players, stating that their mental and physical health was always a top priority. The university initiated an investigation into Towers’ claims, though Moseley’s resignation was not directly tied to the allegations in the official announcement.
Prior to her time at Wisconsin, Moseley found success as the head coach at Boston University, boasting a 45-29 record over three seasons. She also served as an assistant coach on multiple national championship-winning teams at the University of Connecticut under Coach Geno Auriemma.
Wisconsin’s women’s basketball program has faced challenges for over a decade, with their last NCAA Tournament appearance dating back to 2010. Moseley’s departure marks a new chapter for the team as they seek to revitalize and rebuild under new leadership.
