Colin Farrell’s Heartbreaking Decision for Son with Angelman Syndrome Will Bring You to Tears

Dublin, Ireland – Colin Farrell, the renowned actor, has recently made the difficult decision to place his 21-year-old son, James, who suffers from Angelman syndrome, in a long-term care facility. Sharing his thoughts in an interview with Candis magazine, Farrell expressed his concern about what would happen to James in the event of an unexpected tragedy involving himself or James’ mother, Kim Bordenave. He emphasized the importance of having a plan in place to ensure James’ well-being if such a situation were to arise.

Angelman syndrome is a rare genetic disorder that affects individuals with delayed development, speech and balance issues, mental disability, and seizures. In light of James’ condition, Farrell and Bordenave, who co-parent their son, are actively seeking a long-term care facility where James can live a full and happy life. They aim to find a place that allows them to visit James regularly and ensure he remains connected and content.

Recognizing the challenges that come with caring for a child with special needs, Farrell announced the establishment of a foundation in honor of his son James in August 2024. His goal is for the world to treat James with kindness and respect, acknowledging the uniqueness and value he brings to the lives of those around him.

Despite the emotional weight of the decision to place James in a long-term care facility, Farrell remains dedicated to providing the best possible care for his son. He emphasized the profound impact James has had on his life, both in supporting his journey to sobriety and giving him a renewed sense of purpose and love for life.

In reflecting on the care needed for children with health issues, Farrell expressed gratitude for the opportunity to care for James and be a source of love and support in his life. Alongside Bordenave, Farrell filed for a conservatorship over James in 2021 to ensure his well-being as he approached adulthood. Their commitment to James’ happiness and security continues to guide their decisions regarding his care and future.
