LOGAN, UT – A horrific accident resulted in the death of Andre Seldon Jr., a football player for Utah State University (USU). The 22-year-old was found by the Utah Department of Public Safety dive team after an apparent cliff-diving incident at Porcupine Reservoir on Saturday, July 20.
According to initial reports, Seldon Jr. was seen diving from cliffs into the water but never resurfaced. The Cache County Sheriff’s Office labeled it a tragic accident after multiple witnesses recounted a similar sequence of events. The office extended their heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the student-athlete.
Seldon Jr., who previously played two seasons at New Mexico State University under USU Interim Head Coach Nate Dreiling, was set to start classes at Utah State in the fall semester. He won accolades at Belleville High School in Belleville, Michigan, before his college career.
“Our football program is heartbroken to have to endure the loss of one of our own,” said Dreiling, praising Seldon Jr. as an incredible person and teammate. Diana Sabau, the USU Vice President and Director of Athletics, echoed his sentiments, extending “deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences” to Seldon’s loved ones.
