(AbsoluteNews.com) – Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have been loudly calling over the last week for New York Governor Andrew Cuomo (D) to resign. Their calls came after NY Attorney General Letitia James said there was evidence he sexually harassed nearly a dozen women. After days of pressure, the governor has finally taken their advice.
On August 10, Cuomo made it official and resigned from office. The governor continued to deny claims that he’d sexually harassed anyone, blaming a political hit job and his sense of humor for the allegations. Nonetheless, he said he had to step down so the government could stop paying attention to him and start working for the people again.
New York Gov. Cuomo after being accused of sexually harassing multiple women: "I have been too familiar with people…In my mind, I've never crossed the line with anyone, but I didn't realize the extent to which the line has been redrawn." https://t.co/AnQ1GAaQ6h pic.twitter.com/UJiumqxnXI

Cuomo’s decision came two days after his most senior aide, Melissa DeRosa, resigned from office. Reports indicated she no longer believed the governor had a path to remain in office. It also came as calls for his impeachment grew louder. Lawmakers have said they had enough support to impeach and convict him.
Cuomo will depart his office on August 24. Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) is taking his place, and she will become the first female to ever serve as governor of the Empire State.
