Daniel Craig Stars in Luca Guadagnino’s ‘Queer’ Acquired by A24 for U.S. Release!

Venice, Italy – A24, a prominent film distribution company, has recently secured the U.S. distribution rights for the upcoming film “Queer,” directed by the acclaimed filmmaker Luca Guadagnino. The movie, set in 1950s Mexico City, tells the story of William Lee, played by Daniel Craig, an American expat navigating life in a small American community. When a young student named Eugene Allerton, portrayed by Drew Starkey, enters his life, William finds himself forming a meaningful connection for the first time.

The screenplay for “Queer” was crafted by Justin Kuritzkes, a collaborator of Guadagnino, adapting it from the novel of the same name by American writer William S. Burroughs. Both Craig and Guadagnino expressed their excitement about the project, calling it a “labor of love” and highlighting their gratitude for the opportunity to bring Burroughs’ novel to life on screen. The film is set to premiere at the 81st Venice Film Festival before continuing its North American debut at the Toronto International Film Festival and the New York Film Festival.

With a stellar cast including Lesley Manville, Jason Schwartzman, Andra Ursuta, Michael Borremans, and David Lowery, “Queer” promises to be a captivating exploration of human connections and emotions. The production was a collaborative effort involving Fremantle, Fremantle North America, The Apartment, Frenesy Film Company by Luca Guadagnino, Cinecitta, and Frame by Frame, with financing from Fremantle Group.
