(AbsoluteNews.com) – Every year, millions of people head to baseball stadiums with their friends and family to watch America’s favorite pastime. Although there are occasional accidents at the venues, nobody expects to lose their life. Unfortunately, a family is mourning the loss of a woman and her child after a terrible accident in California.
On Saturday, September 25, a 40-year-old woman was at Petco Stadium, where the San Diego Padres play, with her 2-year-old son when the unthinkable happened: the two fell six stories. According to police, they arrived at the stadium around 4 p.m. to find the woman and toddler on a sidewalk. Officers performed CPR on the victims but they were ultimately pronounced dead at the scene.

The two fell from the third-level concourse. Officers told the Union-Tribune they weren’t sure how the fall happened but said it “appeared to be suspicious.” A witness later said the woman was jumping on a bench with the toddler when she fell over the railing.
The child’s father was also at the stadium, but it’s unclear if he was with them at the time of the fall. The San Diego Police Department’s homicide unit was called to investigate the scene.
