(AbsoluteNews.com) – It’s been nearly a year since George Floyd died while in police custody on May 25, 2020. In that time, multiple cities across the country have defunded the police, meaning officials reduced police budgets in order to fund other agencies. Recent crime statistics are starting to show that might not have been such a great idea.
According to an April 1 report by Fox News, crime is soaring in major cities where officials defunded the police. In Minneapolis, MN, where Floyd died, the murder rate has increased 45% from December 11, 2020, to March 28, 2021. Oakland, CA has seen a 314% increase in homicides compared to last year. Murders in Portland, OR tripled from July 2020 to February 2021, and the list goes on. All over the country, cities with cash-strapped police departments are seeing a rise in crime.
From defund the police to refund the police in a few short months… I wonder what happened? https://t.co/Sp8lp3gx5r

The increasing crime rates come at a time when the Democratic Party is also looking to pass gun control measures. If they’re successful, they will have not only made it harder for law enforcement to do their jobs, but also more difficult for people to protect themselves and their families. It’s a recipe for disaster.
