Los Angeles, Calif. — Dan Spilo has parted ways with Industry Entertainment, the talent management firm he helped establish over two decades. His exit follows a notable split with high-profile client Alan Ritchson, the star of the series “Reacher.” This decision comes in the wake of an alleged incident that occurred on the set of the film “Runner,” where tensions reportedly escalated between Spilo and Ritchson.
The disagreement on the Australian set led to Spilo stepping away from the project, and he subsequently lost his producer credit for the film. The fallout does not stop there; other prominent clients have also departed from Spilo, including actor Kal Penn and Lizze Broadway, known for her role in “Gen V.”
In response to the allegations against Spilo, Industry Entertainment released a statement emphasizing its commitment to a respectful workplace. The firm’s partners confirmed that an investigation is underway regarding the conduct alleged to have occurred during the production of “Runner.” The company has a strict policy against harassment and misconduct, underscoring its dedication to creating a safe environment for all individuals involved.
Spilo is known in the industry for his intense approach, a factor that has both garnered him supporters and critics. His departure marks a notable shift, especially considering his ability to navigate various controversies in a transforming Hollywood landscape following the Me Too movement.
Notably, Spilo’s journey has not been without its challenges. In 2019, he was dismissed from “Survivor,” becoming the first contestant to be ejected from the show due to allegations of inappropriate touching. That incident led to significant backlash against CBS, and subsequent to his departure from the show, Spilo’s executive producer credit for “Walker” was also revoked.
After separating from Ritchson, sources indicated that Spilo reached out to several clients in an attempt to reassure them of his continuing support. However, it appears this was insufficient for some, leading to exits from the management firm.
The circumstances surrounding Spilo’s professional decline illustrate the shifting dynamics in the entertainment industry, where accountability and workplace standards are under increased scrutiny. His departure from Industry Entertainment not only marks a personal loss but also echoes broader changes essential to addressing behavioral misconduct in Hollywood.
