Seattle, Washington — Bungie is shifting gears in the Destiny 2 universe as it prepares to launch a new storyline while assuring players that the game will continue to receive significant support. Following the recent announcement of the upcoming game “Marathon,” the studio revealed plans for a major multi-year narrative arc, the Fate Saga, which includes an intriguing Star Wars-themed expansion expected later this year.
This new direction comes after Bungie restructured its release strategy, moving away from extensive annual expansions to focus on two smaller, paid expansions each year. This change, initially teased last September, aims to enhance the storytelling experience and provide players with a more consistent flow of content. The first chapter of the Fate Saga is set to commence on July 15, featuring a paid expansion titled “The Edge of Fate.”
“The Edge of Fate” will introduce players to a new locale called Kepler, inspired by the exploration-focused design of previous games in the franchise. The expansion promises a range of new challenges, including a fresh raid and unique abilities specifically designed for players to navigate the terrain creatively. One of these abilities, known as Matterspark, allows Guardians to transform and adapt to their surroundings, reminiscent of iconic gaming characters.
Alongside “The Edge of Fate,” a new season dubbed Reclamation will launch, bringing an update for all players that introduces fresh events and advanced features. Among these is a revamped activity selection interface, named The Portal, aimed at simplifying access to various game modes. Players can also expect a significant revision to the game’s armor system and the addition of a permanent shooting range to help teams strategize against new enemies and bosses.
Bungie’s content rollout plan includes additional updates, with a major free update titled “Ash & Iron” scheduled for September 9. Details on this update remain sparse, but it is hinted to come with a rewards system that adds to the overall gameplay experience. Following this, an ambitious Star Wars-themed second expansion, “Renegades,” is slated for release on December 2. While specifics on how this expansion will intertwine with the Fate Saga are few, Bungie assures players that it will blend Destiny’s gaming style with recognizable elements from the popular sci-fi universe.
The narrative for Destiny 2 will continue to evolve, culminating in the Year of Prophecy’s final update, called “Shadow & Order,” which is set for March 3 of the following year. As anticipation builds around these new expansions, players can begin pre-ordering each individual expansion and various bundles, making preparations to dive deeper into the evolving Destiny universe.
In this transitioning phase, Bungie is dedicated to keeping the community engaged and informed, promising a rich tapestry of stories and challenges that pay homage to the franchise’s legacy while charting a daring new course for the future.
