Los Angeles, Calif. – The recent Marvel movie “Deadpool & Wolverine” faced controversy when a joke involving Mickey Mouse was axed from the final script at the request of Disney. Starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, the film’s creators revealed that Disney CEO Bob Iger had asked for the removal of a raunchy quip.
Reynolds, who co-wrote the superhero flick, shared the request he received from Iger, highlighting Disney’s control over its intellectual property. Despite the removal of the joke, the script containing the original line was later released on Disney’s FYC portal for public viewing.
The joke in question involved a humorous yet explicit reference by Deadpool to Mickey Mouse’s anatomy, showing the lengths the creative team went to incorporate edgy humor in the film. Director Shawn Levy praised Disney for their willingness to explore taboo subjects in the movie.
In addition to the controversy surrounding the “Mickey Mouse” joke, other comedic jabs and references made it into the final cut of the movie. Subtle digs at the personal lives of the film’s stars and other elements of popular culture added an extra layer of humor to the storyline.
“Deadpool & Wolverine” was Marvel’s first R-rated release, signaling a departure from the typical family-friendly superhero fare. The movie’s success at the box office, grossing $1.3 billion, solidified Disney’s position in the industry and demonstrated the appeal of more mature content to audiences.
The film is now available for streaming on Disney+, offering fans the opportunity to revisit the unconventional humor and unique style that made “Deadpool & Wolverine” a hit. With its blend of irreverent comedy and action-packed scenes, the movie continues to entertain viewers and push boundaries in the superhero genre.
