CARROLLTON, KENTUCKY – Authorities in Carroll County are working to address misinformation surrounding the opening of Dix Dam as Kentucky Utilities officials, and Carrollton Mayor Robb Adams release crucial information amidst evacuations. According to Kentucky Utilities, gates at Dix Dam have been opened in a controlled manner since Friday evening, following proper procedures. The flow from Herrington Lake has subsided on Sunday morning, and the process of closing gates began.

Responding to concerns, Franklin County Judge Executive Michael Mueller emphasized that Dix Dam operations are in line with the State of Emergency Management guidelines, quelling rumors of improper releases. Mayor Adams clarified a miscommunication, apologizing for any confusion regarding the dam’s operation, stressing the importance of disseminating accurate information.

Carroll County Emergency Management has issued mandatory evacuations for several areas, including Prestonsville, Greensbottom, Happy Hollow, Blue Lick, Lock Number One Road, and Lower Mason Street. Mayor Adams revealed that ten gates at Dix Dam were mistakenly reported as opened due to an error in communication from Frankfort. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s District 7 explained that the release of water from Herrington Lake was planned, factored into flood prediction models.
