HONOLULU, HAWAII – A picturesque hiking trail in Hawaii became the scene of a gruesome incident as an anesthesiologist allegedly attempted to murder his wife on her birthday. The event, which unfolded at a popular lookout point, has left both locals and tourists in shock.
Authorities allege that Dr. Ghari Koig, a respected medical professional, tried to push his wife, Ariel, off a cliff and then struck her multiple times with a rock. The alleged attack occurred on the day Ariel was celebrating her 36th birthday, adding a grim layer to the already disturbing event.
The incident reportedly began when Dr. Koig became enraged after his wife refused to take a photo with him on the scenic trail. It is further alleged that he attempted to stab her with syringes before the situation escalated. The attack was interrupted when two women stumbled upon the scene and managed to chase him away.
Eyewitnesses described the aftermath as chaotic, with one witness recalling seeing a woman covered in blood descending the trail. After a seven-hour search, law enforcement officials located Dr. Koig hiding in the bushes. He was arrested following a brief foot chase and has been charged with attempted murder.
Dr. Koig, who has been providing services at Maui Memorial Medical Center, has since been suspended from his duties. His wife, Ariel, is currently in critical condition, suffering from severe facial and head injuries. Ariel, a nuclear engineer, moved to Hawaii with Dr. Koig after his tenure at the University of Pittsburgh.
