BEAVERTON, OR – A shocking hit-and-run incident on a Beaverton highway has left a young motorcyclist with serious injuries, as authorities continue to investigate the reckless actions captured on a dash camera. The footage, recorded on Monday morning, reveals a motorcyclist in the center lane gesturing toward a Kia Carnival van in an apparent attempt to communicate. Moments later, the van swerved sharply, striking the motorcyclist and sending him tumbling onto the shoulder before speeding away.
The victim, a 21-year-old motorcyclist identified by his family only as Corey, was reportedly attempting to alert the van’s driver after experiencing two near-misses. “The van had almost hit him twice already,” said a family member. “Corey was trying to communicate, asking if the driver could see him. The driver made eye contact before veering into him.”
Corey’s family shared that he sustained a concussion and multiple bruises, and his helmet, which cracked upon impact, likely saved his life. The force of the collision was so severe that Corey’s clutch lever pierced the side of his steel-toe boots, and he was thrown approximately 250 feet.
Witness Lucy, who stayed with Corey until emergency responders arrived, described the harrowing scene. “I just thought I saw someone die in front of me,” she said. “That’s someone’s baby. If it were my daughter, I’d hope someone would stay with her too.”
The Beaverton Police Department quickly sought public assistance to locate the van involved in the incident. A tip-off led them to the vehicle, which bore scrapes consistent with the crash. Authorities arrived just as the suspect, Samir Helio Pasotto, approached and attempted to drive off.
Pasotto has been charged with second-degree assault, hit-and-run, reckless driving, attempted assault, and unlawful use of a weapon. Investigators suspect Pasotto had been driving recklessly in the days leading up to the incident. Efforts to reach Pasotto for comment have been unsuccessful.
“It’s difficult to watch the footage because the act was so deliberate,” remarked a witness. “Corey could have died, and it’s hard to understand who could do something like that.”
As the investigation continues, the community remains on edge, grappling with the unsettling reality of such a violent act caught on camera.
