Elizabeth Olsen Confirms Absence from Next Two Avengers Films – What’s Happening with Scarlet Witch?

Los Angeles, California – Elizabeth Olsen has confirmed that she will not be reprising her role as Scarlet Witch in the upcoming Avengers films set to be filmed in London. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Olsen stated that she will be returning to the States after finishing her current project, “Panic Carefully,” and moving on to filming a pilot for FX titled “Seven Sisters.”

Olsen, who has portrayed the character of Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch in six Marvel Cinematic Universe films since her debut in 2014, was last seen in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.” Despite her absence in the upcoming Avengers films, titled “Doomsday” and “Secret Wars,” set to release in 2026 and 2027, respectively, Olsen’s departure may not be set in stone, given the secretive nature of Marvel productions.

The uncertainty surrounding cast members’ involvement in upcoming Marvel films was highlighted by Dafne Keen, known for her role as Laura, a.k.a. X-23 in “The Acolyte.” Keen admitted to keeping her cameo in “Deadpool & Wolverine” a secret prior to its release, drawing inspiration from Andrew Garfield’s similar experience concealing his role in “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”

Speculation over cast members’ return to the Avengers franchise has been rife, with conflicting statements from actors like Benedict Cumberbatch, Chris Evans, and Robert Downey Jr. The latter is confirmed to return as the villain Victor von Doom in “Doomsday,” with other potential cast members’ roles yet to be revealed.

As fans eagerly await the release of the next Avengers film, the question of who will or won’t be returning to the franchise continues to fuel excitement and speculation within the Marvel community.
