Hollywood, California — Ellen Pompeo, renowned for her role in “Grey’s Anatomy,” received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Tuesday, celebrating a remarkable career that spans nearly two decades. The event took on a familial touch with her husband, Chris Ivery, and two of their children, Stella, 15, and Eli, 8, by her side.
Dressed in a chic ensemble and radiating joy, Pompeo posed with her children, who were equally stylish. Stella sported a striking black-and-white polka dot dress complemented by white heels, while Eli looked sharp in a navy suit. Ivery stood proudly beside them, dressed in coordinated grey attire. During the ceremony, as the cameras flashed, Pompeo playfully acknowledged her third child, Sienna, who could not attend.
In her heartfelt speech, Pompeo expressed her gratitude, highlighting the support of her children and the collaborative effort it takes to succeed in the entertainment industry. “This doesn’t happen overnight, and it doesn’t happen easily. It takes a village,” she remarked, directing her love toward her children.
Pompeo also extended her appreciation to Shonda Rhimes, the creator of “Grey’s Anatomy,” for paving the way for her to balance motherhood with her demanding career. “Shonda allowed me to have a career, and get paid and be a mother,” Pompeo stated, emphasizing the challenges many women face in the industry.
Reflecting on her family’s views about “Grey’s Anatomy,” Pompeo shared insights during a recent television appearance. Interestingly, her husband, Ivery, has never watched the series. She recounted how Stella was once a fan but eventually lost interest after encountering a particularly emotional storyline involving a beloved character’s demise.
“The moment George O’Malley died was too much for her,” Pompeo explained, recalling the impactful scene that made her daughter reconsider watching the show. “She just said, ‘I’m done, I can’t do it anymore.'”
While Pompeo is comfortable with Stella watching the show, she remains cautious about her younger daughter, Sienna, seeing it. During her appearance on a late-night talk show, she mentioned how many of Sienna’s friends have seen “Grey’s Anatomy,” sparking interesting discussions during school pick-up. However, Pompeo is not yet ready for her daughter to witness the more mature content, quipping, “I don’t want my daughter to see me in my underwear on television just yet.”
As “Grey’s Anatomy” approaches its 20th anniversary, Pompeo acknowledged the show’s new audience, particularly among younger viewers, raising conversations about how such programs are perceived by families today. With a bustling career and a dedicated family, Ellen Pompeo continues to shine, both on-screen and in her personal life.
