(AbsoluteNews.com) – In 2019, the National Spinal Cord Injury Statistical Center reported more than 249,000 people in the United States live with some type of spinal cord injury. Elon Musk plans to help those suffering from limited or no movement by implanting microchips in their brains, beginning in 2022. While the technology to replace an entire consciousness doesn’t exist currently, he believes his Neuralink company can use microchips presently in testing to hopefully restore movement for people with paralysis of all four limbs.
Musk stated he doesn’t want to “raise hopes unreasonably,” but the results from the company’s monkey implants show promise.
Elon Musk’s brain-interface technology company Neuralink hopes to implant their chips in humans with several spinal cord injuries at some point next year, if they receive approval from the Food and Drug Administration.https://t.co/aAYOeP9do2

The idea is for the tech company to use the chip implants for medical purposes in not only spinal injury victims, but those with other “neurological disorders.” Neurolink is conducting many tests to ensure the safety of its device before trying it on humans. Musk said the company’s goal is to start in 2022 pending FDA approval. As long as the device passes safety checks, there’s no reason to believe the government won’t approve it for people. In fact, bioelectronics company Synchron recently received FDA approval for brain-computer interface trials for paralysis patients.
It appears the world is quickly heading toward merging brain activity and technology, which could have good benefits for some, but it raises an important question: are we facing a slippery slope leading to the ultimate control of humans?
