Energy Infrastructure Attacked in Ukraine by Russian Drones – At Least Three Dead and Power Facilities Hit

Kyiv, Ukraine – Russia launched a widespread drone and missile attack across Ukraine, targeting energy infrastructure and resulting in casualties and damage across multiple regions. The assault, which began in the early hours and continued through the morning, represents one of Russia’s most significant attacks on Ukraine in recent weeks.

Reports from officials in the Zaporizhzhia, Rivne, and Lviv regions indicate that energy infrastructure sites were struck, leading to power outages and disruptions. Unfortunately, at least three individuals were reported killed as a result of the attacks, with multiple other regions also experiencing strikes on critical infrastructure.

Ukraine’s Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal condemned the attacks, describing them as the work of “Russian terrorists” targeting energy infrastructure. Urging allies for support, Shmyhal called for the provision of long-range weapons to target Russian missile launch sites, emphasizing the need to halt the relentless shelling of Ukrainian cities.

In response to the assault, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported explosions in the capital city, with power and water supplies disrupted. The city administration announced plans to open “points of invincibility” to provide charging stations and refreshments during energy blackouts, a measure previously implemented in response to Russian attacks on energy infrastructure.

The attacks also resulted in casualties in various regions, including the western city of Lutsk, the central Dnipropetrovsk region, and the southeastern Zaporizhzhia region. Ukraine’s air force reported multiple groups of Russian drones targeting various regions, followed by cruise and ballistic missiles. Additionally, neighboring Poland’s military and NATO defenses were activated in response to the attack.

Meanwhile, Russian officials reported a Ukrainian drone attack on residential buildings in the central region of Saratov, leading to injuries and damage. Overall, the situation underscores the ongoing conflict in the region, with both sides engaging in aggressive tactics and escalating tensions.
