Los Angeles, California – Hollywood superstar Brad Pitt is set to make a thrilling return to the big screen in the upcoming film “F1,” directed by Joseph Kosinski of “Top Gun: Maverick.” The Apple Original Film features Pitt as former Formula 1 race car driver Sonny Hayes, a legendary figure haunted by the title of “the best [driver] that never was.”
Joining Pitt in the cast are Javier Bardem, Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, and others, who bring to life the intense world of Formula 1 racing. The trailer teases a high-stakes storyline as Sonny Hayes partners with rookie driver Joshua Pearce, played by Damson Idris, to take on the challenge of a lifetime.
The film’s director, Joseph Kosinski, shared his inspiration behind “F1,” citing his newfound love for Formula 1 racing after watching Netflix’s “Drive to Survive” series during the pandemic. This led him to explore the lesser-known stories of underdog teams in the world of motorsport, setting the stage for an epic cinematic journey.
To capture the adrenaline and speed of Formula 1 racing, Kosinski collaborated with seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton, who also signed on as a producer for the film. The production went to great lengths to ensure authenticity, even purchasing real F2 race cars and working closely with Mercedes AMG to create realistic racing sequences.
Filming “F1” took the crew to various locations across the Formula 1 global circuit, from Silverstone to Las Vegas, culminating in Abu Dhabi. Kosinski immersed himself in the world of professional racing, shooting scenes before actual races and incorporating real crowds to enhance the authenticity of the film.
Special attention was paid to the technology used in filming, with Sony custom-building cameras specifically for the high-speed racing sequences. The crew worked tirelessly to capture the heart-pounding action of the track, showcasing the intense collaboration between director, cinematographer, and actors behind the scenes.
