Ex-Pope Reportedly Knew About Children Being Assaulted, But Did Nothing

(AbsoluteNews.com) – The Catholic Church has been dealing with an ongoing sexual assault scandal for years. Many, many people have come forward to say they were victims while they were attending mass or some other church-sanctioned activities. Now, the former Pope is being accused of ignoring these tales of abuse.

According to reports, Pope Benedict XVI knew some priests were involved in sexually abusing children while he was the Archbishop of Munich in Germany from 1977 to 1981. The Catholic Church found the information about the accusations during its own investigation. The former head of the church denied the allegations against Pope Benedict XVI. However, the reports indicated his denials didn’t match evidence uncovered during the two-year probe.

The report largely focused on Priest Peter Hullermann who was accused of abusing children in the 1970s and ‘80s. Even though he went to jail for victimizing the kids, he was allowed to remain in the church. The report found more than 3,600 people who were abused in the Catholic Church in Germany from 1946 through 2014. More than half of the victims were under the age of 13.

Pope Benedict XVI is known as the first pope to resign in more than 600 years.
