On Monday, Lance Cpl. Rylee McCollum traveled home for the last time. The 20-year-old Marine was just three weeks away from becoming a dad when he died. His heavily pregnant wife, Jiennah, and in-laws attended the dignified transfer of remains ceremony at Dover AFB.
President Joe Biden met with the families of the deceased before the event. Roice McCollum said everyone in her family, except her brother’s wife, walked out before Biden entered the room. She said they didn’t want to speak with the man they blame for their loved one’s death.
The next day, the family arrived home in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. The Teton County Sheriff’s Office shared a video showing the warm welcome they received. The US Marine Corps and Jackson Police Department escorted the family. Residents of the town lined the streets, waving flags and showing their love for the family and Marine who gave his life to help save thousands of lives in Afghanistan.
