Biddulph, Staffordshire – An eight-year-old girl named Mia Glynn tragically passed away from sepsis after being sent home from the GP twice within a four-hour period, her devastated parents revealed. Mia had been experiencing symptoms of vomiting, a sore throat, and a severe headache over the course of three days before her untimely death. Despite seeking medical attention and being prescribed antibiotics by her GP, Mia’s condition worsened, leading to her parents calling 999 when they noticed her lips turning blue.
Mia’s cause of death was officially determined to be sepsis caused by a Strep A infection. Her grieving parents, Soron and Katie Glynn, expressed the profound pain and disbelief they have been experiencing since losing their beloved daughter. Describing Mia as a vibrant, caring, and joyful individual, they highlighted the devastating impact her passing has had on their family.
The tragic events leading to Mia’s passing began on December 5th, when she first started complaining of a sore throat. Her parents promptly sought medical assistance when her symptoms escalated, but were told the hospital was unable to accommodate Mia due to being at full capacity. Despite being sent home with antibiotics and advice to monitor her condition, Mia’s health rapidly deteriorated, prompting her parents to call for emergency assistance in the early hours of December 9th.
Upon the arrival of the ambulance, Mia was rushed to the hospital where medical staff administered intravenous fluids and antibiotics. Despite their best efforts, Mia went into suspected septic shock and ultimately suffered a cardiac arrest. Her parents, devastated by the loss of their daughter, emphasized the urgency of raising awareness about the dangers of sepsis in the hopes of preventing similar tragedies from occurring in the future.
In response to Mia’s passing, a significant amount of fundraising has been conducted in her memory, with donations being made to the UK Sepsis Trust to support ongoing efforts to combat the condition. Legal action is also being pursued by Mia’s family, with Victoria Zinzan of Irwin Mitchell representing them in a claim of medical negligence.
