During their first date, a Georgia woman reportedly stole a man’s truck before leading authorities on a high-speed chase captured on video.
According to Coweta County Sheriff’s Sgt. Toby Nix, Jenifer Lee Gray became the “date from hell.”
On the dating app “Plenty of Fish,” the 37-year-old woman met the victim, Wesley Burson, according to WSB-TV. On Thursday night, the man arranged for an Uber to pick up Gray at the Northwest Atlanta hotel and bring her back to his home in Coweta County for their first date.
“Nix was getting ready to go out for the evening, he heard his truck cranked up in the driveway, and she was left inside,” he said.
The incident report said Burson had gone to the bathroom when he heard his truck start outside.
Upon returning from the restroom, he spotted his truck peeling across the front yard and immediately called 911.
Field Operations spotted the stolen vehicle on Welcome Rd as a patrol deputy was en route to the incident location. He was able to catch up to the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop on Temple Ave, Nix explained.
According to reports, Gray refused to pull over and accelerated to speeds exceeding 100 mph.
“On the interstate, speeds were over 100 mph, she was driving recklessly and attempted to swerve into our patrol car while he was making a PIT maneuver,” Nix told FOX 5.
As the offender’s stolen vehicle passed the 53 I-85 N mile mark, a member of the sheriff’s office’s H.E.A.T. Unit standing by on the interstate was able to successfully hit it with stop sticks.
As a result of the Crime Suppression Unit’s pursuit, the vehicle was spotted, a PIT maneuver was performed.
On charges of theft by taking and fleeing/attempting to elude a police officer, Gray was taken into custody and transported to Piedmont Newnan Hospital for evaluation.
